The third annual Pendle Employer Summit will take place on Friday 17 May 2024 at Pendle Community High School.

This event runs from 9.30am-12pm and will comprise panel interviews, speakers and networking. A buffet lunch will be created and served by the students from 12pm.

A guest panel from Pendle companies will share the myriad roles they have within them, the difficulties they have recruiting people with the right skills, the work they do with schools now, the benefits this brings for them and why more businesses need to engage with their future workforce to ensure a future skills pipeline.

A guest panel from skills and education will share different aspects of the need and mechanisms for education and employer engagement on a local and regional level. Also the vast benefits that employer engagement gives to pupils both for developing future careers and interpersonal skills.

We will also discuss regional and national support schemes and the unique opportunities that living, studying and working in Pendle can bring.


We're delighted to announce that confirmed speakers so far include:

• Andrew Stephenson MP. Andrew will share a national perspective on the importance of employer /education engagement

• Debra Grogan - Headteacher at Pendle Community High School & College. Debra will highlight the importance of employer engagement with SEND schools and the difference this can make to their students and their futures

• Ian Fraser - Apprentice Development Manager, Graham Engineering. Graham Engineering employ 24 apprentices representing 15% of their workforce. Ian will share the importance of local children understanding all the different roles available in different organisations and how employing a diverse range of young people brings a wealth of skillsets.

• Daniel Barry - Employer Engagement Enterprise Coordinator, Inspira. Daniel will outline the ways employers can support local schools and colleges including The Skills Pledge and the role of an Enterprise Advisor.

• Phillip Scurr – Director of Place, Pendle Borough Council - Phillip will discuss the unique opportunities and challenges within Pendle for employers, schools and those living, studying and working in Pendle.

• Paul Hartley - Enterprise Advisor & Founding Director of Insitu - Paul will share the role of enterprise advisor and the benefits to both education and employers

• Lee Schofield - STEM Ambassador and Development Team Manager at Graham Engineering. STEM Ambassadors offer their time, passion, and energy to visit schools, colleges, higher education institutions, and youth group organisations to link STEM subjects to the real world of work. Lee will share how this role benefits both schools and employers.


  • Morag Davis - Assistant Principal for Technical Curriculum at Nelson & Colne College. Morag will outline the ways NCCG is working with local employers to shape the curriculum and ensure that key skills are learned
